Why I Love my Smartphone

I am always being bombarded with articles on Facebook about moms spending too much time on their phones/blackberries/tablets/etc.
Now, while I will be the first person to agree that too much screen time is no good for anyone, I have to step out and say that I think my smart phone makes me a better mom.

It's easy to get caught up in drama on your favorite forum, or tell yourself "just one more tweet and Ill do that load of laundry Ive been neglecting for three days", and then look up an hour later with nothing done.
We've all done it.
And sometimes having the entire world at our fingertips can be a distraction, but there are a lot of ways my phone makes my life easier.

I recently posted a picture on facebook and received the comment,

"You always have your camera ready at just the right moment"

and you know what? They're right. I do always have my phone ready, its always in my pocket, and so when i see a moment, it takes only a second to grab it and snap away. The camera in my phone is as good, if not better than most point and shoots anyway so its even like I'm losing quality.  I'm so extremely grateful for this because otherwise I would lose out on capturing these moments.

Its not just the camera though. There are so many apps you can use to make life easier, from educational apps for the kids, scheduling apps to keep you on time, communication apps and texting to help you keep in touch, instagram and facebook to share photos, the list goes on.
My all time favorite thing my phone does though, is keep my baby quiet. Z, like all babies, likes to cry, especially when hes in the carseat or stroller and there's not much I can do to help him.
I recently found a white noise app though, that silences him the second i turn it on. Its like a magic off switch. It not only keeps him quiet though, he loves it! He goes from a screaming mess, to a happy smiley baby in one second flat. its amazing, and its the kind of miracle i wished for when my first colicky baby was little.
I truly credit that app for saving my sanity some days.
I truly believe my smartphone makes me a better mom because it makes my life easier, and for that I am immensely grateful.

How does your smartphone improve your life?

  1. I love my phone - maybe even more than you do. I became addicted when I downloaded a pedometer app - I would check it to see how close to my goal I was all the time, throughout the day. It was always in my pocket and from there I became addicted to everything else it has to offer. I'm pinning this to my board - Mummy loves her iPhone!
